The Claim: 3-D Movies Can Induce Headaches and Sickness

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/09/health/09really.html?ref=movies

Many viewers have complained that the 3-D films such as the box office hit "Avatar" causes them to have headaches, nausea, blurred vision and other symptoms such as motion sickness.

Studies have indicated that the cause of this is unnatural eye movement.

Some experts say that one way to avoid this is to focus on only the parts of the screen that are completely in focus.

My honest opinion is this: people always find something to complain about. It clearly says in the warning label that it could cause motion sickness. Why would you go see it knowing this and then complain. People never cease to amaze me.

  1. It's just like regulars at a restaurant that get hooked up and still find flaws in their experience. Vegetarians who regularly show up at a steakhouse and complain about the menu. People who complain that their sweet tea is never sweet enough, even though they come in every day and order it, as well as seeing all the sugar packets right there on the table. It is human nature to always expect a little bit more than what you're getting, or to think that whatever disclaimer pops up is only going to apply to someone else. A real lack of maturity if you ask me.

  2. I do not like the imax experience. It makes me sick. But I don't really complain about it. Humans are whiny, for the most part.

I keep hearing people talk about how cold it is, and how terrible it is. I keep my mouth closed. I come from dark people. We do not complain.

  3. I'll have to agree. The majority of these people that made these complaints probably had previous occasions of sensitivity to minute details. If they pursue that endeavour with passion, the only remedy would be a swift sock to the chin.

  4. There definately are always going to be people to complain about things. But you can't help but feel sorry for them. Especially the people complaining about the 3D movies.

I only say this because I too feel the headaches and nausea when watching 3D movies. Though I may not complain because I did go see them knowing I usually feel bad during some point in the movie. But it is hard to fault people for wanting to experience certain things in life. Especially new technology. Who doesn't want to experience it?

Though if people willingly go they probably shouldn't complain if they know full well they can experience these problems.

  5. You're right. People do seem to always complain about something. I say to ignore people that insist that somethingis wrong with eerthing and keep on going, it's that only way things will change. If we continue to go with keeping things the same b/c of a complaint then we will never move on.

  6. I agree with everyone on this one. For the people who complain about the movie, they know better next time to not see a 3D Imax anymore.

When people give bad reviews based on their issues with quick movements, it turns off thrill seekers who may actually love movies like that but are afraid to see a bad movie.

Complainers should just stick to their routine and not ruin the experience for everyone else.
