Shutter Island Soars at Box Office

Shutter Island which was pulled out of the fall release in 2009 arrived in theaters on Friday and was No. 1 at the North American box office.

Fall of 2009 this R-rated feature was pulled from release by a cost cutting Paramount pictures. Hollywood was surprised at the delay especially since the director was the one and only Martin Scorsese.

Paramount studio says they simply couldn't afford to realese the movie in the fourth quarter because of an industry wide decline in DVD sales, among other financial concerns.

Scorsese nor Leonardo Decaprio, the films main character, has had an opening this big in quite a while. In fact its been eight years since Decaprio's "Catch me if you Can", his previously biggest open.

I saw the film this weekend and was absolutely amazed. There are no words to describe how amazing this film was. Scorsese keeps you on edge and thinking the entire time. I felt as if I was in the movie itself, which if you see it you will realize is a little scary. Amazing reviews for an amazing movie. I can't wait to see where it stands as far as awards for 2010 go.

  1. This movie has made up for the hit they took when they werent able to get in the Academy Awards. They have made up for it with ticket sales. With the popularity of the movie, I feel it will make the next Academy Awards.

  2. I don't really care for Decaprio.

However, this movie appeals to me. The ads make it look like the kind of movie that will have me waking up in the middle of the night screaming and in a pool of my own sweat.

Maybe I'll wait until it comes out on DVD and Netflix it.

  3. I have no heard any feed back about this movie yet. But the previews for this movie looks amazing! I can't wait to see it, I hope it is just as great as the previews make him out to be. It is always disappointing going in thinking a movie is going to be great only for it to turn out that they showed all the good stuff in the previews

  4. It's weird to think that a studio that big wouldn't be able to release a movie. Maybe they didn't want to compete with Avatar, and wait for some of that buzz to die down before releasing it. Scorsese is great, and so is DiCaprio. I will probably see it when it comes out on DVD.
